Introduction - Trauma: Types & Causes
Number of Professional Development Hours: 1.5
In this current stage of globalization, trauma occurs as a result of several types of experiences including maltreatment (e.g., abuse and other adverse childhood experiences), wars, civil unrest, systemic forms of exclusion (e.g., racism), exploitation (e.g., human trafficking), environmental disasters, and a global health crisis. The global health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, disproportionately impacts communities of color, impoverished communities, and individuals with disabilities. It is imperative to understand trauma and its causes. In Module 1: Trauma and Causes you will learn about trauma, what it is, how it might look in real-life contexts, and what events and experiences can cause trauma.
Learning objectives: At the end of Module 1: Trauma and Causes, participants will be able to:

Discuss adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and their role in causing trauma
