Trauma impacts children and families worldwide, leading to lives disrupted by psychological, emotional and physical distress; mental health concerns; sensory, emotional and behavioral dysregulation; and disabilities of communication and language. Effective assessment and intervention is culturally responsive and trauma informed. Module 5: Engaging in Ethical Trauma Informed Practices will present the principles and ethics of trauma informed practices, and support participants in applying these principles to current practices. 

Learning Objectives: At the end of Module 5: Engaging in Ethical Trauma Informed Practices, participants will be able to: 

  1. Define trauma informed practices and identify the principles of trauma informed practices

  2. Discuss the ethics of trauma informed practices

  3. Create policies and practices that uphold principles and ethics of trauma informed practices


Note: Module 5 addresses requirements for ASHA Certification Maintenance; specifically, it covers the ethics of trauma informed practices. Beginning in January 2020, American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association certificate holders are required to earn, 1 hour of ethics.
